Year 2 Taster Topic - Rule of Law

Year 2 Overview
Teaching children about the Rule of Law from as early as Year 2 is an important part of helping them understand how society works and how we can all live together fairly and safely. At this age, children are beginning to recognise rules in their own lives, whether at school, at home, or in the wider community. Introducing the idea that laws are rules that apply to everyone helps them develop a sense of fairness, responsibility, and respect for others.
Through learning about the Rule of Law, children begin to understand why rules exist and the role they play in keeping people safe and ensuring that everyone is treated equally. They explore simple concepts such as right and wrong, consequences of actions, and the importance of making good choices. This supports the development of moral understanding and encourages children to think about how their behaviour affects others.
By incorporating the Rule of Law into the Year 2 curriculum, we lay the foundations for a deeper understanding of British values whilst reaching the requirements for RSHE. It encourages respectful behaviour, supports positive relationships, and helps children grow into thoughtful, responsible members of society.
