In a world where children are just a click away from potentially dangerous online challenges, schools need to step up their online safety education. Did you know that over 70% of children aged 8–11 use social media and messaging apps, making them vulnerable to viral dares and risky online content? That’s why this July, Click or Quit? - a brand new PSHE Assembly - launches to help children learn how to stay safe online.
Why Online Safety Should Be a Top Priority
Children today navigate a digital world that most adults never experienced growing up. The rise of viral challenges has blurred the lines between harmless fun and dangerous dares, making online safety education more critical than ever.
The Rise of Risky Online Challenges
Some of the most alarming online trends include ‘breath play’ challenges and dangerous dares that can cause unconsciousness or even death. These challenges spread rapidly through social media, leaving parents and teachers scrambling to keep up.
Click or Quit? addresses these threats head-on, teaching children to spot risks and make informed decisions before participating in any challenge.
Building Digital Literacy
Teaching children digital literacy means helping them think critically about what they see online. This is a crucial step towards empowering them to say “no” to risky challenges and to seek help from trusted adults. PSHE assemblies like Click or Quit? provide an engaging and age-appropriate way to build these vital skills.

The Story Behind Click or Quit?
Click or Quit? was inspired by the tragic death of 14-year-old Jools Sweeney in April 2022. His mother, Ellen Roome, was determined to turn her pain into action, agreeing to team up with 1decision to create a resource that could prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.
Campaigning for Change
Since Jools’ death, Ellen has campaigned tirelessly for Jools’ Law, which aims to give parents access to their children’s social media data after death. Together with Lisa Kenevan and Hollie Dance - who also tragically lost their children - Ellen is fighting for change. By collaborating with 1decision, they’ve made sure that vital Stay Safe Online messages reach more children across the UK.
A Platform for Digital Resilience
The assembly focuses on building resilience, empowering pupils to think critically about online challenges and to ask questions before taking part. Through real-life stories and interactive elements, Click or Quit? helps children feel confident about staying safe online.
